Testing

Vitest is the usual test runner for Vue projects built with Vite. It reuses your Vite config, runs quickly in watch mode and offers a Jest-compatible API, so moving from Jest is mostly mechanical. To mount components you also need Vue Test Utils, the official component testing library, or Vue Testing Library, which builds on Vue Test Utils and encourages tests that query the page the way users see it.

The listed Vue Testing Library repository has had no commit since mid-2024, so check its releases against your Vue version. For end-to-end tests, Playwright and Cypress both work well with Vue apps, and Cypress also offers component testing. Of the smaller entries, jest-serializer-vue-tjw improves Jest snapshot formatting, and vue-hubble, for selecting elements in UI tests, is archived. Snapshot tests catch accidental changes but break often, so test behavior first.
